Bellydance Classes at Behrens Street

Bleeding Heart Bellydance of  Napa, is proud to announce that they are now teaching classes at the Napa Valley Art Association building at 1520 Behrens St.

Bleeding Heart Bellydance performs and teaches a style of dance called American Tribal Style Bellydance.  American Tribal Style belly dance's movements are inspired by folkloric dances of the Middle East, North Africa, Spain and India.  This dance style is an improvisational style of bellydance that relies on strong communication between the women dancing, rather than choreography, to create a united performance experience.  Though it is a modern American dance style, the feeling is ancient and exotic, with vibrant costuming, music, use of zills (finger cymbals), movements and interaction between the tribe of dancers.  The style emphasizes the beauty of women dancing together and is engaging and empowering.  Join us for a class or show.

Leslie Lew, director of Bleeding Heart Bellydance, will be teaching beginning classes at the Napa Valley Arts Association on Monday evenings at 5:30 through February. Leslie’s intermediate and advanced classes are ongoing Thursday evenings at 6:15. And 7:30.  Classes are designed to increase grace and strength and to bring out every woman’s natural and powerful beauty.  We develop camaraderie and a community of women.

Director Leslie Lew has been dancing American Tribal Style since the early 90’s with Invaders of the Heart, Troupe Anahata, Manasa, and Bleeding Heart Bellydance and began teaching in 2006.  Leslie received her General Skills certification from Carolena Nericcio in 2009.
